Tips for Creating Custom Wine Label Designs for Your Client.

When designing custom wine labels for your customer, it is always best to ask these important questions before getting started:

1. Who is the target audience? Is your client hoping to reach a wide range of consumers, or do you have some specific consumer demographics that you want to appeal to? What characteristics of the group - or groups - do you want to reach, and what qualities of your product or brand will you be able to associate with them? If your target consumer is a woman in her mid-twenties, would a label that incorporates a few flourishes be more likely to appeal to her than a plainer, less decorative one?

2. What is the value proposition of your brand? What aspects will make people want to choose your customers product over a competitor’s? After brainstorming with your client, make a list of a few of the most important pieces of information and consider adding them to your label to make it feel less generic and more specialized. Remember that consumers make quick buying decisions when choosing one wine brand over another.

3. Is your customer’s product distributed locally, regionally or nationally? This may affect the color choices that you use in your label design. With our on-demand digital label capabilities, you can design labels for a specific market. In some markets maybe a color similar to a local sports team may help your product get noticed. For example, if you are marketing your client’s product in the southeast region you could potentially print 10 different product color variations to help market the product in local markets. You would never change the customers brand colors but change secondary design colors could help catch a consumer’s attention.

4. Know your Competition. This is a great way to carefully consider the trends already apparent in your local wine market and figure out what works and what does not. You should also look for elements that your intended market would be drawn to, and ones that might turn them away.

5. Test your Design – Gather a small group of buyers that fit the target demographic. Test how your label design stacks up against the competition. Validate that the design is delivering the intended brand identity. We can provide you with fast turnaround on small test quantities to help you test different variations of label designs.
